Personal Insight Prompt

Personal Insight Prompt Option #1

Prompt: What would you say is your greatest talent or skill? How have you developed and demonstrated that talent over time?

I have many skills, but I believe my greatest skill is problem-solving.  Being able to analyze and solve problems is something that I worked hard to develop over time.  When I was younger, I used to react so emotionally when something did not go my way or as planned.  It would throw me for a loop and I could not concentrate or regain focus. I realized that I could not do that everytime a challenge or obstacle came into my life.  I knew that if I stopped trying and gave up, then for sure nothing good will come my way.

From the moment I realized that problems can be solved, I started to look at barriers with a more solution-focused view.  Even though something did not go the way I would have liked, does not mean that it has to go a bad way. As my problem-solving skills grew, I started to feel more calm.  I began to believe in my ability to handle situations, no matter how difficult they seemed.

One connection that I can make between my problem-solving skills and my future success is that with the unpredictability of life, I know that I will be fine.  This skill has benefited me time and time again in the past. It has helped me in high school when I had this history class that for some reason did not come easy to me as my other class.  My problem-solving skills allowed me to recognize this as a challenge, and find solutions, which were after-school tutoring and re-writing the notes I wrote in class.

This skill makes me an excellent candidate for college because if accepted, you can count on me to finish college and graduate.  No matter the problem, whether it is transportation, money for school, a difficult class, or balancing work and school, my problem-solving skills will help be to succeed.
